• This is a Sourdough book. ... What, you need more Info? Ok, clearl, you haven't read any of them, otherwise you'd have hit that buy-button by now. So, to explain, Angela Slatter's Sourdough books (consisting so far of 3 short story collections, a novel and a novella) can be envisioned as a connected world where fairy tales of the darker variety take place. Important here: The books are feminist without being preachy or one-dimensional, and while bad men exist, so do good ones. Similarly, the books work without jamming yet another twist of Grimm character XYZ fown our throats; they are originals. The tales of characters also often entwine and overlap while remaining narratively self-contained. I am a passionate roleplayer, RPG designer, and lorehound and this setting makes my design-gingers twitch, so this adds the icing on the cake for me. If you can, get Sourdogh, The Bitterwood Bible, The Tallow-Wife, Of Sorrow & Such, All the Murmuring Bones as well. If you can't, well, then this is as good a place as any to start, as, with all of these books, you can start your journey into Sourdough anywhere. We meet Selke again, one of the protagonists series veterans will recall, currently campign in the woods; a creature, somewhere between werewolf and troll enters the clearing, and Selke weaves two thoroughly gorgeous dark fairy tales for us, framed by this night. Oh, and much to my surprise, we end this with a rather cool dtinger for an epic wuest that I really want to read as well. Masterful. Get it.
