In fiction, poetry, drama, memoirs, and commentary, Under the Fifth Sun: Latino Literature from California presents more than two centuries of Latino presence in California: these are the stories of missionaries, gold miners, zoot suiters, farmworkers, labor organizers, hipsters, political refugees, artists, celebrities, and others, filled with emotion and intelligence, love of language and love of life. A comprehensive and unique selection from a body of work that is transforming the ways in which we understand California, Under the Fifth Sun offers everything from gritty reality to magic realism. It is a celebration, an outcry, and a revelation.
Rick Heide has a degree in Latin American history from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master's degree from the Institute of Latin American Studies at London University.
