Legacy
Eyvind Johnson is regarded as one of the leading modernist writers in Swedish literature. His allegorical wartime works, historical novels and autobiographical sequence earned him high esteem. He became a member of the Swedish Academy in 1957 and consolidated his international reputation by receiving the 1974 Nobel Prize in Literature (shared with Harry Martinson).
