Legacy
Gitchandra Tongbra is regarded as an important satirical writer and playwright in Manipur and modern Indian theatre. He received the Padma Shri in 1975 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978; a Tongbra Drama Festival was held in 2015 in his honor.
