Legacy

French Catholic conservative politician. Served as Mayor of Tours from 1959 to 1995 for 36 years, known for city expansion and conservative moral policies. Ran in the 1974 presidential election, receiving 3.17% of the vote but failed.

  • In October 2013, a statue was erected in Place de la Liberté, Tours (cost 44,000 Euros raised by public subscription).
