Legacy
Suman Shah is a leading critic and short story writer of modern and postmodern Gujarati literature. Through numerous books, editorial work and translations he has had major influence on regional literature; he received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2008 among other honors.

- Author of more than 74 books (including novels, short story collections, criticism, translations and edited volumes).
- Taught Gujarati literature for about 42 years (1962–2004) at schools, colleges and university.
- Honorary editor of Shabdasrishti (1983–1986) and editor of the literary journal Khevna (1987–2009).
- Married Rashmita in 1965; they had two sons (Purvarag and Madir). His wife died in 2016.
