Zvi Yanai was a civil servant who contributed to the promotion and popularization of science in Israel and is regarded as a pioneer in bringing science to the public. He headed the Ministry of Science from 1993 to 1997 and initiated innovative programs for science outreach. He also edited the periodical Mahshavot and contributed to public intellectual discourse.
