Description

The Kate Tufts Discovery Award is part of the Tufts Poetry Awards hosted by Claremont Graduate University. Established in 1994, it is an annual award for poets demonstrating 'genuine promise' in their first published poetry collection. Entries are limited to English-language trade books published from July of the previous year to June of the current year. The deadline is July 1 each year. The original prize amount was $5,000 but has been increased to $10,000. Winners are announced in February of the following year, with the award ceremony held in April on the Claremont Graduate University campus. Applicants must be US citizens or legal residents of the US.

Preliminary screening
Judges Preliminary panel (3 members) — screening approx. 400 entries (both awards combined)

Judges Final panel (5 members) — judged by prominent figures in American poetry
Announcement Winners are announced in February of the following year and honored at the April ceremony

Criteria

  • Future promise as a first poetry collection (genuine promise)
  • Artistry, expressiveness, and technique of the poetry
  • Consistency and completeness of the body of work
  • Publication date within the submission period (July previous year–June current year)
  • Applicants must be US citizens or legal residents

Application Tips

Dos

  • 刊行日が応募期間(前年度7月〜当年6月)に入っていることを確認する。
  • 応募作品は英語で刊行された単行本に限定されるため、該当する書籍を提出する。
  • マニュスクリプト、CD、チャプブックは不可。応募形式の要件を確認する。
  • 応募締切(毎年7月1日)を厳守する。
  • 応募資格(米国市民または合法的居住者)と必要書類を事前に用意する。
