Description

The RITA Award is an accolade for romance novels hosted by Romance Writers of America (RWA), targeting outstanding works in romantic fiction. Entries begin in the fall, and applicants were required to submit 5 printed copies by the posted deadline. In the preliminary round, each title was evaluated by 5 judges, finalists were typically announced in mid-March, and winners were announced at the award ceremony on the final day of RWA's annual conference (usually in July). Following reviews of the organization and selection process, and in response to diversity issues, RITA operations were suspended in 2020, and the successor Vivian Award was introduced.
