A beautiful hardcover edition of The Last Battle , book seven in the classic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia . The full-color jacket features art by three time Caldecott Medal-winning illustrator, David Wiesner, and black-and-white interior art by the series' original illustrator, Pauline Baynes. During the last days of Narnia, the land faces its fiercest challenge—not an invader from without but an enemy from within. Lies and treachery have taken root, and only the king and a small band of loyal followers can prevent the destruction of all they hold dear in this, the magnificent ending to The Chronicles of Narnia . Witness the greatest of all battles in The Last Battle , is the seventh and final book in C. S. Lewis's classic fantasy series, which has been drawing readers of all ages into a magical land with unforgettable characters for over sixty years. A complete stand-alone read, but if you want to relive the adventures and find out how it began, pick up The Magician's Nephew , the first book in The Chronicles of Narnia .

Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Out of the Silent Planet , The Great Divorce , The Screwtape Letters , and the universally acknowledged classics The Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and have been transformed into three major motion pictures. Pauline Baynes has produced hundreds of wonderful illustrations for the seven books in The Chronicles of Narnia . In 1968 she was awarded the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal for her outstanding contribution to children's literature.

Reviews

  • Wonderful read.. my 7 and 9 yrs olds love it.. full of adventure.. and teaches courage in the face of difficulty..clear print and legible pictures.. lightweight ... a must read

  • I’ve read the Narnia series to all our four kids & have just finished The Last Battle with my youngest daughter. We all loved each and everyone one of them.

  • The Narnia series is like six decent childish books for kids… and then the seventh is suddenly a brutal, terrifying, horrific and stunningly beautiful adult book that is a journey into the true dark vs light nature of the world, and the true power of truth, honor, and faith in the face to so many liars, in the face of a hopeless, dark, defeated world with few heroes, that we actually live in. One of the greatest books ever written, this sole Narnia book is better than Tolkien and Asimov combined while the first six are just fun kids books that you only need to read to get the full context of this one. I don’t read much fiction, I prefer non fiction, programming, chemistry, thermodynamics, etc. but this one is one of the few fiction books that possibly saved my life by matching the hopelessness of the world I was and remain in, of so few allies if any of truth, honor, and doing the right thing regardless of the consequences. A religious almost sacred experience.
