• Wonderful classic old children's novel about young Nicholas Fetterlock

  Set in 1493, _The Wool Pack_ tells the story of young Nicholas Fetterlock, son of a Cotswold wool merchant, caught up in the middles ages intrigues of the wool trade. Never turgid, always easy to read. Wonderful classic old children's novel, but because of the sheer amount of historical detail Cynthia Hartnett packs in, together with some wonderful illustrations of times gone by, there is much to interest and entertain adults, too. Such a shame it is out of print. Buy from a used bookseller before it's too late! My special interest? I am researching a novel I am writing, set in days of yore. This has helped me with historical detail.

• Beautiful history book for children in story form.

  Wonderful teaching aid for children and beautifully written. I was brought up at school on this book and it helped to encourage my love of history for life. Once again I am nine years old again!

• Interesting rather than riveting

  This is clearly children's fiction, but it is highly educative stuff. I am learning on almost every page. The down side of this is that it feels like an educative book, rather than a good rompingly well written novel. Nevertheless, I'll keep going til it's over.
