Description

The Prime Minister's Awards for Literary Achievement were established in 2003 by the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa (Creative New Zealand). Each year the awards recognise sustained/lifetime contribution to New Zealand literature across three categories — fiction, non-fiction and poetry — with each winner receiving NZ$60,000. Winners are selected by Creative New Zealand/appointed panels and are announced publicly (often via government or Creative New Zealand releases).
