Description
The Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize (Premio internacional de novela Rómulo Gallegos) was established in 1964 by presidential decree in Venezuela to honor writer Rómulo Gallegos and stimulate creative activities among Spanish-language writers. It is operated by the Venezuelan government through CELARG (Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American Studies). The first award was in 1967, held every 5 years from 1967 to 1987, and biennially thereafter. The prize money is 100,000 euros, one of the highest literary prizes in the world.
