• Interesting, entertaining, and with great illustrations

  Doughty writes in such a friendly and approachable manner that the topic of death becomes interesting, entertaining and informative. I blazed through this book in a couple of hours, engrossed by the questions from youths. Plus, Dianné Ruz's illustrations were so morbidly cute.

• Caitlin writes like she talks like she posts. I adore this glamazon of a woman who sweeps away the dust and ashes from the old world of death with a beautiful Hawaiian broom and gets stuck in there. With absolutely no space or desire to shock or provoke, Caitlin, our Magnificent Mortician writes about death in such a way that calms the post mortem waters of our fears, soothes the trembling parents worries about answering those icky or weird questions children ask about the Big D. And they ask a few curly ones.... Death has replaced sex in our culture as the Great Big Unmentionable Subject. Caitlin is bringing it, kicking and screaming by the scruff of the neck ( and us with it) back into the light, in her great books. Read them all. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Really. Then watch her YouTube Channel. It’s informative, entertaining and well done. If I lived in the States, I would have Caitlin as my Death Doula. The woman is a treasure, she is normalising death, giving it beauty and personal meaning. Taking it away from cookie cutter, hugely costly embalming & expensive casket funerals to home based, family designed and planned eco burials. Just read the books. You won’t regret it. Thank me later.

• I love Caitlin’s YouTube channel, and decided to buy all her books. This one was nothing new to me (the facts), but I love the humor. And the illustrations!

• Good info for forensic as well as a bit about cutural aspects. Funny way of telling about dead bodies! Goodone

• This looked like such a fun book to read regardless of the topic, and I wasn’t wrong. It was lighthearted, full of funny quips and at the same time covered a very difficult subject matter and was informative. I’m not sure I should have chosen to read it a week after my nan died though, but it did manage to put a lot of things into perspective for me. However, I’m not sure I will be remaining practical about the situation at her funeral later this week. After reading what happens during a cremation, I’m not sure the mental image will ever leave me. It was good to read, though, and know that my cats aren’t circling me waiting for me to die so that they can eat me. They will at least wait a few days, so I have some time that they will just think I’m asleep before starting to munch on my face! I must remember not to fall out with everyone I know so that people will be concerned if I disappear for a day or two and check in on me! The book was brilliantly written, and I learnt so much whilst it still remained laid-back and playful. The author certainly has a great sense of humour. Overall, a great book to read and if you’ve ever wanted to know the answers to some strange and morbid questions about what happens to your body after you die then this is definitely the book to read.
