In a small town haunted by whispers of the past, two young women forge a bond that transcends the boundaries of life and death. Sylvie, the ethereal new girl, carries the weight of unseen voices, while George, the town's outcast, yearns for connection. When George defends Sylvie from the school bullies, their friendship blossoms, drawing them into the shadowy world of Sylvie's antique shop, where ghostly echoes linger in every object. As their bond deepens, George's scars sing with longing, leading them toward a tragedy as inevitable as the whispers of the attic. Will their friendship be enough to overcome the darkness that threatens to consume them both? Perfect for readers who enjoy atmospheric, dark fiction with a touch of the supernatural.

レビュー

  • J. Ashley Smith displays rare accomplishments here -- with lambent prose in the service of yearning, aching, grieving. This will move the unmovable. There will be tears.

  • This is a haunted and haunting tale, one that lingers in the mind long after the last page has been turned… Ashley-Smith brilliantly evokes character and place in prose that is shimmering, elegant and simple; a prose that works its way deep like a surgeon’s knife slicing through the metaphysical miasmas that make us human. Any number of writers might come to mind as you read this, from John Fowles to Chuck Palahniuk, but this is a singular voice and a unique talent at work. As with any great work, The Attic Tragedy defies a genre, and the real and the unreal walk hand in hand like in a movie by Lynch. My only recommendation – read it! It’s time well spent. Bring on the next!

  • Evocative and beautiful and devastating. Subtly 'painted', layer upon layer. It blew my mind - I am looking forward to the next work from this author!

  • Brilliantly written, incredibly engaging and wonderfully original. A really enjoyable mix of coming of age drama, horror and eerie supernatural thriller. While dark and melancholy there’s also real humanity and beauty. It certainly sits with you for a good while. Highly recommended.

  • When I read the the blurb about the book I expected this to be about a girl who can sense the spirits attached to objects. Although it was loosely about this, it is mainly a story of unrequited love. Although it is an interesting read, I was disappointed it wasn't about ghosts really.
