• I have given this book away dozens of times

  I actually always have two on hand so I can "lend" one without fear. It's well written but a hard read because it tells of a child's experience in the darkest days of Cambodia. It's about hope. It's about strength. It's about you-think-you've-got it-bad. It's also about not diminishing anyone's suffering. It's about the frustrations of red tape. It's about courage. It's a terrific book that is worth reading and sharing.

• True story of Cambodian girl adopted after Pol Pot killing fields

  Brings alive the horror of the Pol Pot regime in digestible bites sandwiched between the happier story of the Cambodian girl being adopted by Gail Sheehy. A very powerful story. The killing fields did not get the notoriety of the holocaust but were just a horrible, maybe more so since children were forced to turn parents and grandparents in to be killed. In the end, this is a beautiful story of hope.

• A very good book that is a must for everyone to read

  How this young girl ever survived is an absolute miracle. She is one of the greats and her life is an example to the rest of us when we have little bumps in the road. We have given many copies away to family and friends and told them this is a must read.

• got the spirit

  Condidtion of this 26 year old first edition was VG... Any one with an interest in the asian area should read this, for a greater understanding of the social and religious aspects of the area. This was a new item!!!

  I loved learning about Cambodia and Gail is a fantastic writer.
