• History of Mexico is not something taught in schools and in Europe. This book is a good introduction into one episode of it. Reading this in 2025 it is fascinating to find many parallels with the current political situation. Privatize the profits and nationalize the expenses was powerful then and now has its revival. Policies of Trump, racism, unlawful seizure of immigrants follows long standing US tradition. One thing I did not like is the phrase US imperialism. I now understand what Latin America means by that, but its meaning is different in Europe. Both US imperialism and Anglo-Saxon rule are the terms which are used by Russian propaganda to whitewash Russian policies which are much worse compared to the ones perpetrated by US and their allies in the countries US “empire” was projected upon. So for any Latin American readers please read up on Russian history the way I am reading up on yours. Or you are risking the fate of Magon, carrying the flag of a needed revolution first and then going to obscurity with the wild unimplementable ideas.
