The Goldsmith Book Prize was established in 1993 as part of the Goldsmith Awards Program at the Shorenstein Center (Harvard Kennedy School). It recognizes books published in the previous year that examine the intersection of press, politics, and public policy and are deemed to contribute to 'improving government.' Since 2002, it has been expanded into two categories: Academic and Trade. The Shorenstein Center also administers the Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting and the Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism.
