Description
The Hertzog Prize (Hertzog Prize / Hertzogprys) was established in 1914 and is awarded annually by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (South African Academy for Science and Art) to Afrikaans writers. It is awarded in poetry, prose, and drama categories, and there was formerly a scientific prose category. Established as part of the early movement (Tweede Taalbeweging), the first winner was Totius (known for his poetry collection Trekkerswee as the inaugural award-winning work). Monetary details or published application deadlines are not described in this article, and selections are made by the Akademie's committee.
