Description

The Vilenica Prize is the main award of the international literary festival established in Slovenia in 1986, recognizing outstanding achievements in literature and essays by writers from Central Europe. Organized by the Slovene Writers' Association and Cultural Centre Vilenica. Winners are selected by a jury, receiving a cash prize (10,000 euros as of 2016) along with benefits such as translation and publication of the winning work into Slovenian. Subsidiary awards include Crystal Vilenica (selected by visiting guests) and Young Vilenica (for young writers). The award ceremony is held in multiple venues starting with the Vilenica Cave, and the festival promotes cultural diversity and tolerance.
