The Solzhenitsyn Prize is a non-governmental Russian literary award established by Alexander Solzhenitsyn in 1997. It awards authors for works that "show the troubles of the Russian life with rare moral purity and sense of tragedy" and recognizes consecutiveness and steadiness in the search for truth. The prize (US$25,000) is financed by royalties from sales of The Gulag Archipelago. Laureates have been named annually since 1998; some years have multiple laureates.
