Description
The Pulitzer Prize for Drama was first awarded in 1918, recognizing outstanding achievement in dramatic works performed domestically in the United States. The jury, consisting of one scholar and four critics, attends performances and evaluates works to select nominees. The final decision is made by the Pulitzer Prize Board (Columbia University), which may overturn the jury's selection. Prior to 2007, the selection period aligned with the Broadway season (March to the following March), but currently, it generally targets works performed in the US during the previous calendar year. Musicals have also won, in which case the composer, lyricist, and librettist may also be recipients. Finalists have been announced since 1983.
