Description
The Xavier Villaurrutia Award (Premio Xavier Villaurrutia) is a prestigious Mexican literary prize founded in 1955 and named in memory of Xavier Villaurrutia. It is awarded to Latin American writers whose work has been published in Mexico. The jury is composed of previously awarded writers. The prize may be given for a specific work (novel, poetry, essay, short stories, theatre, etc.) or, in some cases, for an individual’s body of work. Multiple winners have been named in some years; the award was suspended in 1968 and effectively not awarded in 1969 for political reasons.
