• This book was recommended to me by a good friend who absolutely loves J. California Cooper's writing. She died a few months ago and that friend said this was one of her favourites so I picked it up. What a joy! The book reads as if your grandmother is telling you the stories of people she knew and how they fell in love. The short stories are full of advice on life, love, and living in the world. Definitely well worth the read and Cooper was a clever writer. Cooper is an author that should have been spoken of more when she was alive.

• This is my favorite book in the world. J California Cooper is my favorite author in the world. The characters in her books have a triumph of the spirit. Her words invite you into the lives of the people in her stories. She captures your heart with real life lessons and common sense. Most of all, I love her honesty. Life is best served warm, with tears, smiles, and truth and she serves it up just right. The best gift given is that which is a part of you. So, in that spirit, I've given this book away to so many people that I have lost count. Last October I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Cooper at a book signing here in New Orleans and she was gracious enough to sign my copies of her books; (I own and have read them all). What a Blessing her words are! Read Homemade Love, and all of her books, and you too will become a fan for life.

• I could read J California Cooper till the chickens come home to roost

• I ordered this book for a book club. I was a little nervous at first, but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I actually read it over the course of two days ( I have 3 girls, I have to fit it in when I can)! I was also surprised when I came across the short story Funny Valentines, because I've seen the movie a hundred times and did not know that it derived from a short story. Awesome author and story telling! Will definitely look into some of this author's other material.

• I read this book as a teen and I was so happy to find it here. The stories make you feel as though you are talking to a friend. They made me laugh and some had me feeling a bit emotional. J California Cooper is a fantastic writer. This isn’t even her best book in my opinion. You can’t go wrong with this one. One of the stories was even turned into a movie starring Loretta Divine and Alfre Woodard.
