Dylan was six when The End came, back in 2018; when the electricity went off for good, and the 'normal' 21st century world he knew disappeared. Now he's 14 and he and his mam have survived in their isolated hilltop house above the village of Nebo in north-west Wales, learning new skills, and returning to old ways of living. Despite their close understanding, the relationship between mother and son changes subtly as Dylan must take on adult responsibilities. And they each have their own secrets, which emerge as, in turn, they jot down their thoughts and memories in a found notebook - the Blue Book of Nebo. In this prize-winning novel, Manon Steffan Ros not only explores the human capacity to find new strengths when faced with the need to survive, but also questions the structures and norms of the contemporary world.

Welsh Dystopia in Nemo.
This is a very thought provoking dystopian novel, written by a Welsh Author, who has adapted and translated it for English readers. An excellent example of the genre, describing the survival of a small family, against all the odds, because their mother had the foresight to prepare. If you are able, read it in the original Welsh. I believe the juxtaposition of disaster with the known details of a shared Welsh culture, the details of the naming of the little girl and being at one with the landscape are very ‘Cymraeg’. It is an excellent read.

Beautiful book.
I was completely out of my comfort zone when I began reading this book. It was recommended to me and without reading any reviews or even the blurb, I bought it immediately and started to read. Despite the harsh descriptions of life after Armageddon, the desperate need to survive for Rowenna and Dylan is written in a beautiful, almost, ethereal way. Its a simple story of a mother and her son who survive the End of the World and their inner strengths keep them on a path that will lead them to an uncertain future. It is a lovely book, written by a gentle, caring hand that seems to understand the most basic of human needs. A part of me wants to by this author, but another part of me is cautious in case the next book I read undermines the magic of this one.
