Description
The Merano Poetry Prize (German: Lyrikpreis Meran) is an international literary award for German-language poetry, founded by Alfred Gruber in 1993. Awarded biennially in Merano by the South Tyrolean provincial government, the prize includes the main award of €8,000, the Alfred-Gruber-Preis of €4,000 (sponsored by the South Tyrolean Savings Bank Foundation), and the Media Prize of €3,000 from RAI South Tyrol. Nine nominated poets recite their work before an audience and a five-member jury, who then deliberate and announce the winners. The prize is widely regarded as one of the most important poetry competitions in the German-speaking world.
