The Sir Roger Newdigate Prize (Newdigate Prize) is an award presented by the University of Oxford to the best English poem (English verse) by a current undergraduate, established in 1806. The winning entry is announced at Encaenia. Regulations state that the poem must be no more than 300 lines long, with no strict restrictions on meter, but dramatic form is not permitted. Past winners include John Ruskin, Matthew Arnold, Oscar Wilde, and Alan Hollinghurst. There are years when no award is given and suspensions during wartime.
