Description
The PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award was established in 1991 by PEN Oakland to honor outstanding works by multicultural writers in the United States from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and to convey the significance of multicultural works to the general public and media. PEN Oakland itself was founded in 1989, and the award is named after Josephine Miles. It has been referred to as the 'Blue Collar PEN Award' by The New York Times.
