Description
The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction is a historic literary award conferred annually by Columbia University's Pulitzer Prize Board on outstanding fiction (novels, short story collections, novellas, etc.) by American writers published in the previous year. It began in 1918 as the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel and was renamed the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1948. Since 1980, finalists are usually announced, and the final decision is made by the Pulitzer Prize Board. There have been years when the award was withheld and years involving controversies around the judging process.
