Criteria
- Outstanding literary quality and originality
- Translatability and cross-border appeal
- Reflecting Europe's creativity and diversity
- Future potential and development as an emerging writer
Application Tips
Dos
- Check each country's nomination rules and deadlines in advance (applications usually via publishers or national organizations)
- Collaborate with publishers or agents to prepare summaries and press kits in English or French
- Clearly demonstrate the work's translatability and cross-border appeal
- Organize past achievements and promotion plans, presenting them in a way that resonates with judges
Don''ts
- Trying to apply directly while ignoring national nominations
- Submitting incomplete materials or after deadlines
- Emphasizing only regional characteristics without considering translatability (failing to explain cross-border appeal)
From Judges
- Emphasis on unique writing style and clear expression that remains effective after translation
- Advantageous to demonstrate balance between the story's universality and cultural specificity
- Submitted materials should be concise and reader-friendly (summaries in English/French are helpful)
