Description
The Golden Wreath is the main international award of the Struga Poetry Evenings festival, established in 1966 and given to a world‑renowned living poet for lifetime achievement in poetry. It is selected by the festival's board/committee and traditionally announced several months before the festival. Notable laureates include W. H. Auden, Pablo Neruda, Eugenio Montale, Joseph Brodsky, Allen Ginsberg, Seamus Heaney, Tomas Tranströmer and Margaret Atwood. The Struga Poetry Evenings festival itself began in 1961 and expanded internationally by 1966 when the Golden Wreath was introduced.
